Five Quetta Solar-Powered Tube Wells Project

Completed

Background

Water and Sanitation Authority planned to develop Five Quetta Solar-Powered Tube Wells Project in Balochistan, Pakistan. This project covered the construction of five deep water wells and corresponding supporting solar power generation equipment. Solar panels was utilized to generate electricity and extract groundwater. Each well could pump 190 liters of water per minute, and the daily output of 5 wells was 456 tons. This was the first time for a solar pumping system introduced in the region. As a solar water well project, the pumping function was the same as that of an electricity well, but it would not increase the government's electricity burden. It could not only increase more power to this country but also save the electrical power. This project deeply intensified the friendship between China and Pakistan and could also benefit a lot to the Belt and Road Initiative.
