PT Bukit Asam Tbk planned to develop 2×660 MW Bukit Asam Coal Fired Pithead Power Plant Project, in 2 km north of the Muara Enim County, Sumatera Selatan, Indonesia. The BOOT developer of the project was PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power, a joint venture of China Huadian HongKong Co Ltd and PT Bukit Asam Tbk. The construction contractors for main components were China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Power Engineering Co., Ltd. and China Energy Engineering Group Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Co Ltd. The supervision consultant was Central Southern China Electric Power Design Institute. The project covered the construction of a coal-fired pithead power plant with 2 generation unites (660 MW of each). It was designed to be a sub-critical wet condenser unit installed with the Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) system. The project signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and a 25-year coal supply agreement with PT Bukit Asam Tbk. The project was originally planned to be completed by the end of 2016 and start operation at the beginning of 2017. The project was viewed as a milestone of high-quality development under the Belt and Road Initiative and the "2218" strategy. As one of the most important power plants in Indonesia, the completion of the project was expected to boost the industry, economic development of Indonesia.
