Dubai, UAE: du, from Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC), has showcased the huge potential for 5G technologies to drive the UAE’s major industry verticals, following the telco powering an innovative 5G live stream in partnership with China Media Group (CMG, Former China Central Television CCTV). Taking place during the important occasion of Chinese New Year Spring Festival, du enabled CMG with the first-ever 5G live broadcast of this event, which was held at Dubai’s City Walk on 17 January.

This milestone represented a breakthrough for du’s dynamic 5G network and made a significant step towards further bolstering the proud bilateral relations the UAE government shares with its Chinese counterparts.

The celebration at City Walk, organised by the UAE government, saw CMG use 5G smartphones for mobile live broadcasts and a 5G MIFI with 4K camera capabilities to capture and live broadcast the grand occasion.

‘From Beijing to Dubai’

Saleem AlBlooshi, Chief Technology Officer, EITC, said: “From Beijing to Dubai, du is proud to be playing a leading role in connecting the future economic progress of China and the UAE. Intelligent, dynamic connectivity is the future of our connected ecosystems, which is why it is an honour to be the telco of choice to help broadcast this prestigious event with 5G to showcase its potential to empower the world’s core industry verticals.”

Mu Li, General Director of CMG Middle East, said: “In the coming Year of the Rat, we are proud to be broadcasting defining moments of the Chinese New Year celebration in Dubai. By employing du’s premiere 5G network capabilities, we managed to not only broadcast this event to thousands of viewers in the UAE and China – we also played a vital role in broadcasting the important ties our countries share through the inspiring capabilities that 5G offers the media sector, among others.”

‘5G takes-off’

While 5G rollout has the potential to elevate consumers’ connected lifestyles, the live stream use case illustrated the possibilities 5G can bring to various industry verticals as more large-scale events come to Dubai and the UAE.
