Muscat: Spearheading learning in the banking industry, National Bank of Oman (NBO) recently hosted its latest virtual seminar, entitled Hunting for Yield: Global Bond Markets Review and Outlook. Led by Georgios Costa Georgiou, Global Head of Fixed Income Product Specialist at Allianz Global Investors, one of the world’s leading active assets managers, the session offered expert perspectives on trends and opportunities in the global economy and markets for the medium-term future. It was part of a series of virtual events the bank has held in recent months, providing timely investment insights on a wide range of financial topics.

Yaseen Hassan Al Lawati, Head of Investment Banking Division at NBO, said, “At NBO we are always working on our commitment to being the ‘bank of choice’, building on our relationships with our clients and stakeholders, while driving the wider vision of the Sultanate’s sustainable prosperity. Through our frequent virtual events, we continue to keep them ahead of the curve, providing a unique glimpse into today’s most pertinent financial topics from the industry’s most influential minds. These events have become increasingly popular and a trusted resource for insights, expertise, and tactics to protect investments, especially given the uncertainties of a global pandemic.”

The topics covered during the session included GDP growth expectations for 2020-21; Developed Markets & Emerging Markets - interest rate and inflation perspectives; and Yield expectations across Investment Grade and High Yield securities.

As Allianz’s Global Head of Fixed Income Product Specialist, Georgios is responsible for communicating the company’s fixed income strategies and active value proposition to clients. Previously, Georgios was Head of Investment Structuring across all asset classes and strategies. Before joining Allianz Global Investors in 2014, he was Head of Investment Risk at Invesco, and a Director in Global Markets at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He has also worked in private, corporate and investment banking at Deutsche Bank and UBS, and as an economist at the European Central Bank and a financial markets regulator in the UK earlier in his career. Georgios graduated with a BSFS from Georgetown University and an MPhil from the University of Oxford.

NBO hosts and partners with a number of conferences and events that add value to the development and diversification of the economy.
