Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (MARC) will host the MARC MALAYSIAN BOND & SUKUK VIRTUAL CONFERENCE 2021 (MMBS 2021) which will be held over three half days from May 19 to May 21, 2021. This virtual conference will be officiated by Datuk Syed Zaid Albar, Executive Chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia, with Moody’s Investors Service as the strategic sponsor.
MMBS 2021 will serve as an ideal platform for finance professionals to come together to actively share and exchange ideas on ensuring the continued growth and momentum of the capital markets. It is also a golden opportunity to cover critical and market-relevant issues and solutions. In view of this, panel presentations and discussions in this virtual conference will comprise a diverse mix of representatives from Malaysia’s debt capital markets.
The first day of the conference will kick-off with an economic report and outlook in 2021, where we examine the impact of lockdowns on the economy, and Malaysian corporates’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the lessons gleaned. This will be followed by a review of the Malaysian bond and sukuk market post-COVID-19, whereby we touch on increased liquidity requirements as well as foreseeable trends impacting the market, among others.
The second day will open with a discussion on the integration of the bond and sukuk market with fintech. This discussion will touch on the development and gaps as well as opportunities and challenges faced by practitioners today. Current trends in fintech will also be highlighted. This will be followed by a dialogue on sukuk, encompassing emerging sukuk trends, regulatory challenges and the sustained demand for sukuk.
The third and final day will commence with a discussion on factoring in environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) in investment decisions. The discussion will centre around the development of ESG policies, how investors are factoring ESG into investment decisions and the relevant benefits, as well as current best ESG practices. The conference will close with a conversation on the way forward for the domestic bond and sukuk market, as well as mitigating challenges that lie in the path ahead.
