• Dr. Alexander Solyga: Egypt is An Important Partner for The German Development Cooperation

The German GIZ announces the appointment of Dr. Alexander Solyga as New Country Director following Dr. Andreas Kuck.

Dr. Regine Qualmann, Director of Regional Division - North Africa at GIZ Germany stated, “Dr. Solyga will be leading the international cooperation efforts between Egypt and Germany. He will also be responsible for overseeing the implementation of projects in all parts of the country on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and other development partners.”

Dr. Qualmann said, “After more than 5 years, Dr. Kuck has concluded his post at GIZ Egypt with a multitude of successful projects that generated real impact for the Egyptian people. We thank Dr. Kuck for his keenness to grow our portfolio in Egypt, one of our most important partner countries for international cooperation.”

She went on to say, “With the appointment of his successor, Dr. Alexander Solyga, we are committed to build on the successful cooperation and to further strengthening the ongoing ties between Egypt and Germany. We offer our full cooperation to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Strategy: Egypt Vision 2030.”

Dr. Alexander Solyga joins GIZ Egypt as Country Director with more than 28 years of experience in international development cooperation. Before assuming his new role in Egypt, Dr. Solyga served as Country Director of GIZ Sudan since 2016, where he re-established the presence of GIZ in Sudan as an implementing agency for technical cooperation of the German Government.

“It is an honour to be chosen to lead GIZ’s work in a country with major regional political significance and where sustainable development is a top priority on the government’s agenda.” said Dr. Solyga.

Dr. Solyga completed his Master’s Degree in Economics and Social Anthropology from Freie Universität Berlin in 2003 and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) with distinction in Social Anthropology, Economics and Sociology from Universität Bayreuth in 2010.
