National Central Cooling Company PJSC (Tabreed), the leading UAE-based international cooling provider, has been awarded a contract to build, own, operate and transfer a district cooling (DC) system in Amaravati – the future capital of Andhra Pradesh, India.

Tabreed recently signed a 30 year concession with Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) for a total capacity of 20,000 refrigeration tons over an area of 1 km² for government buildings (State’s Assembly, High Court, Secretariat among others). The Amaravati district cooling project is not only Tabreed’s first success outside the GCC, but also the first DC project developed in public-private partnership in India.

Jasim Husain Thabet, Tabreed’s CEO, commented: “We are very pleased with our first project in India, increasing our presence to 6 countries. Our strong core business, experienced team, structuring capabilities, and proven innovative skills made us the ideal choice to be a long-term partner of APCRDA. Our focus will be on delivering high quality and cost-effective cooling solutions to provide long-term benefits for the Andhra Pradesh government.”

Sebastien Arbola, CEO of ENGIE Middle East, South & Central Asia and Turkey added: “Fully in line with ENGIE’s strategy to focus on new emerging markets, we are delighted to celebrate the Amaravati DC project, Tabreed’s first success outside the GCC region and the first DC project developed in PPP in India. Together with our partner Mubadala, and thanks to the Tabreed team, we are particularly proud of this accomplishment”.

Present for over two decades in India, ENGIE has an installed capacity of 810 MWp in solar and a capacity of 280 MW in wind being built. The Group employs around 1,000 people in power generation as well as in engineering and energy services.

ENGIE owns a 40% stake in Tabreed.
