An initiative launched in the Southern Governorate last year to provide municipal services at people’s doorsteps through a mobile unit is proving to be a major success.

The Southern Municipality said it had completed 44 per cent of the building permit transactions electronically, under the ‘Municipality Service at Your Door’ project.

It has also completed 38pc of home trash bag delivery and 24pc of licensing services for the supervision and inspection department from September 2020 until the end of March 2021.

“The transactions are completed by means of a fully-equipped vehicle that contains a computer linked to the municipality’s systems,” said the municipality.

“The vehicle has all official forms and customers can fill in the data required to obtain the service – all in front of their homes.”

Sixteen services are being provided from a single vehicle, including building licences for extensions of less than 50 metres, service licences and addresses, delivery of testimonials and certificates, following up on violations and receiving complaints, amongst others.

The municipality launched the service last May to help the elderly, sick and pregnant women and people with disabilities.
