Restaurants and sheesha cafés will be allowed to reopen in September, it was announced yesterday.

The Government Executive Committee said outdoor dining at restaurants and cafés would be allowed from September 3, while sheesha and dine-in services will be permitted from September 24.

It was also decided to allow the gradual reopening of tourism restaurants, including those located in four-and five-star hotels and those authorised by the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, in accordance with medical and preventive requirements, by allowing reservations for special occasions that do not exceed 20 people per group and provided that reservations do not exceed one reservation each time.

This is effective immediately ahead of preparations for restaurants and coffee shops to resume all dining services.

Training institutes will also reopen on September 3, said the committee, adding that the measures follow recommendations by the National Taskforce to Combat Covid-19.

The new measures, which come as part of a further easing of restrictions enforced in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, follow a decision last week to open gyms, outdoor fields and swimming pools on August 6.

The GDN previously reported that salons, barber shops, beauty parlours along with gyms, fitness studios and sheesha cafés had been shut down in March as a precautionary measure against the spread of Covid-19.

While barber shops and salons were allowed to reopen in May under strict regulations that limited their services to customers, sports facilities remained closed.

“As the blessed Eid Al Adha approaches continuing to adhere to and implement all precautionary and preventive measures is a national duty that enhances our strength in combating Covid-19,” said His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, who chaired the Government Executive Committee meeting.

With Eid announced on July 31, gyms, outdoor fields and swimming pools are set to reopen next Thursday.

Monitoring

“The situation will be monitored between the reopening and closure of establishments based on several factors which include the overall positive cases out of the total amount of daily tests conducted,” revealed an official statement.

“The number of critical care cases out of the total overall positive cases will also be considered while also looking at the percentage of occupancy at isolation and treatment facilities in relation to capacity.”

Meanwhile, it was also announced that restaurants in four- or five-star hotels will open while bookings at ‘occasion venues’ will be allowed for a maximum of 20 people per group and limited to one booking per time.
