The UAE has extended its 10-year permanent visa to yet another veteran - Dr. Ram Buxani, chairman of ITL Cosmos Group along with his wife Veena Ram Buxani.

In an interview with the Khaleej Times, Buxani, said: "The UAE government by issuing long term visa of 10 years has taken a great proactive step in creating a rare confidence in the expatriate community. Simultaneous announcement of Gold Card itself shows that long term visa is not the end of the road. We can expect many more things."

The 10-year visa has come as an Eid gift to the Buxanis . "I was particularly touched when HE Major General said, you are our valued partner, not a client".

Buxani who has been a resident of the UAE since six decades received a call from the office of Major-General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, director-general of GDRFA on June 2.

Buxani added: "Not that earlier, getting a 2 or 3-year visa was cumbersome, but the 10-year visa gives a better sense of belonging to the country. It is now necessary to sit and reflect as to what we have done for the inhabitants of the host nation. Our role in CSR activities locally require lot of attention."

Buxani, a recipient of 'Lifetime Achievement Award' in 2017 by Forbes Middle East for three consecutive years - 2014, 2016 and 2017 - strongly opines that the new breed of entrepreneurs should give back to the UAE which nurtures talent here.

"My humble advice to new entrepreneurs would be to show sense of gratitude to the nation which is ready to welcome you with open arms with world class infrastructure."

Asked as to how does it feel to call UAE his 'home', the veteran, said: "Desert around the UAE is full of dunes which depicts up and down. In my life of 60 years in the UAE, I have seen many ups and down and each time UAE in general and Dubai in particular, comes out victorious. This is a rare country which focuses on development of its expats. It is difficult to find a parallel. We should reciprocate in same spirit."
