Muscat – As part of its efforts to stimulate the economy and develop governorates, the Ministry of Economy held a meeting on Thursday to announce the ‘Governorate Development Programme’.

The programme is being implemented in accordance with Royal Directives to allocate RO10mn to each governorate in the tenth Five-Year Plan – 2021-25. As part of the programme, the sum will be expended at the rate of RO2mn each year to spur the economy of each governorate as a minimum developmental ceiling.

The meeting was attended by H E Dr Nasser bin Rashid Al Mawali, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Economy, H E Abdullah bin Salim Abdullah al Harthy, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Finance, H E Sayyid Khalifa bin al Murdas al Busaidi, Secretary General of Governorates Affairs, and a number of governors.

“The meeting is part of the efforts made to achieve the tenth Five-Year Plan’s objectives aiming to empower governorates, contribute to the process of decentralisation, and achieve comprehensive and balanced development for each governorate,” said H E Mawali.

H E Busaidi added, “The meeting of the governors with the Undersecretary of Economy and Undersecretary of Finance will reflect positively on the development projects in the governorates.”

The Ministry of Economy confirmed that 28 strategic programmes are being implemented during the tenth Five-Year Plan. These programmes will contribute to achieving the objectives of the plan and Oman Vision 2040.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the governors exchanged views about the programme and reiterated the significance of drafting annual plans for the respective governorates. They also discussed proposals to address challenges facing the governorates during the programme’s implementation.

The Ministry of Economy recently released the ‘Strategic Programmes Folder’ for the tenth Five-Year Plan, which focuses on 14 national priorities and 430 strategic programmes chosen as per the priorities of Oman Vision 2040.

The Strategic Programmes Folder is an integral part and the main document of the tenth Five-Year Plan.
