DUBAI: The Iran-backed Houthi militia targeted Abha international airport in Saudi Arabia, which injured 26 civilians, the spokesperson of the Saudi-led Arab coalition said on Wednesday.

The attack took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Saudi Press Agency reported from a statement given by Col. Turki Al-Maliki.

The attack resulted in the injury of 26 civilians of different nationalities, including three women (Yemeni, Indian, Saudi) and two Saudi children. At least 18 were admitted to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Al-Maliki said that the military and security forces were working to determine the type of weapon used for the attack.

The Houthi militia claimed full responsibility for the attack through an announcement on a Houthi-affiliated television channel, Al-Masirah, where they said a cruise missile was used.

Al-Maliki concluded his statement by stressing that the leadership of coalition condemns the acts of terrorism and immoral violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians.

He added that the coalition will take urgent measures to ensure the safety and protection of civilians.
