MANAMA: The government will continue to subsidise electricity and water for Bahrainis at their primary residence, the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) said.

The statement followed media reports about remarks by deputy chief executive for distribution and subscriber services Adnan Fakhro, who said during a Parliament debate on Tuesday that the government subsidy would stop in 2022.

Mr Fakhro’s comments meant increasing the authority’s efficiency to achieve a fiscal balance between its revenues and spending in accordance with best practices while maintaining electricity and water subsidy for citizens at their primary residence, EWA clarified.

MP Dr Hisham Al Asheeri also denied any plans to end power and water subsidy for citizens at their primary residence, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
