The Egyptian government is planning to launch major public-private partnership (PPP) projects with up to EGP 5 billion in investments.

The Ministry of Finance’s (MoF) PPP Central Unit will complete the procedures required for the tendering of a multi-phased project to build 1,000 co-education language schools after Eid Al Adha.

The first phase of the project includes financing, designing, operating, and maintaining 54 schools, Egypt’s Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, revealed on Monday.

The term of the first phase’s contracts is up to 30 years, the PPP Central Unit’s director Atter Hannoura said, noting that these contracts were awarded to five contenders.

Hannoura added that the second phase comprises financing, designing, operating, and maintaining 200 schools and that its 30-year contracts will be tendered in the first quarter of 2019.
