MANAMA: Bahrain’s national origin exports increased by 60 per cent last month amounting to BD283 million, compared with BD176m in May last year, shows the latest report from the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA).

The top 10 trading partners accounted for 75pc of the value of national origin exports in May 2021 with the remaining 25pc claimed by other countries, says the report which also includes data on balance of trade, imports and re-exports.

Saudi Arabia ranked first among countries receiving Bahraini exports of national origin, importing BD52m worth of goods from Bahrain.

Meanwhile, the UAE was second with BD45m and China third with BD20m.

Agglomerated iron ores and concentrates emerged as the top product exported during the month with BD60m.

Unwrought aluminum alloys were second with a value of BD48m and semi-finished iron and steel was third with BD24m.

The report found that the value of re-exports increased by 38pc to BD55m during May 2021 when compared with BD40m for the same month last year, with the top 10 trading partners accounting for 89pc of the re-exported value.

The UAE was the leading market for re-exports from Bahrain accounting for a value of BD14m, followed by Saudi Arabia with BD12m and Singapore coming third with BD6m.

Four-wheel drive cars emerged as the top product re-exported from Bahrain with a value of BD9m, followed by parts for plane engines in second place netting BD6m and gold ingots in third place with BD5m.

The report said value of imports increased by 6pc to BD402m during May 2021 compared with BD378m for the same month last year with the top 10 trading partners accounting for 66pc of the imports value.

According to the report, Brazil was ranked as the top exporter to Bahrain with BD52m, followed by China with BD46m and Australia in third place with BD31m.

Non-agglomerated iron ores and concentrates emerged as the top product imported into Bahrain with a value of BD75m while other aluminium oxide was second at BD28m and four-wheel drive cars in third place with BD13m.

The trade balance, or the difference between exports and imports, amounted to a deficit of BD65m during May 2021, an improvement of 60pc compared with BD162m for the same month last year.
