Work on a multi-million-dinar uniquely designed building is 29 per cent complete, it has emerged.

The multi-storey structure accommodates all directorates of the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry under one roof.

Minister Kamal Ahmed stressed the importance of adhering to the 24-month approved time-table with the project expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2021.

Details were revealed during a meeting held between Mr Ahmed, ministry’s resources and information assistant under-secretary Aref Al Mansoori, Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry’s projects and maintenance assistant under-secretary Shaikh Mishal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and engineers and consultants.

“The concrete structure of the main building was recently completed, and work is underway to implement civil works and electromechanical installations on the various floors in the building in addition to work connected to the building’s electrical sub-station,” said Mr Ahmed in a statement yesterday.

“The building brings together all the ministry’s directorates under one headquarters with a distinctive architectural design which will contribute to elevating the levels of productivity and efficiency.

“It will also enhance the channels of communication, co-ordination and flow of work in addition to facilitating the completion of tasks entrusted to the ministry and services provided to customers while also rationalising spending and operational costs of facilities to ensure resource sustainability.”

The new building is supervised by the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry which has tendered the BD7,733,290 project to Al Jameel Construction with Gulf Engineering House supervising the project.

The seven-storey building is being developed on a 15,611sqm plot of land with overall construction covering 19,275sqm and also includes a basement housing electromechanical services.

The building also consists of 219 parking spaces and green spaces while also being equipped with the latest technology and equipment which implement international standards while also using eco-friendly materials in line with modern construction requirements.
