Dubai – A consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power is close to winning the construction contract for Umm Al Qwain’s water purification plant, launched by the UAE’s Federal Electricity & Water Authority (FEWA).

Acwa Power’s consortium offered the lowest price, $0.9158 per gallon, down 12% from the offer presented by Abdul Latif Jameel and the Besix consortium, according to MEED magazine.

The AED 1 billion plant will have a desalination capacity of 45 million gallons of water per day.
