Riyadh – Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) signed a strategic alliance framework agreement with Yokogawa Electric Corporation, a Japanese major provider of industrial automation and test and measurement solutions, to enhance mutual collaboration.

Under the deal, the Japanese firm was chosen as a preferred supplier of control systems, said a press release on Thursday.

Yokogawa will foster localisation in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the Japanese company’s integrated control systems and safety instrumented systems will be used for SABIC plants across the Middle East and Asia-Pacific regions.

Furthermore, it will "promote manufacturing excellence by collaborating with SABIC on innovative digitalisation technologies, as well as energy optimisation programs.

Yokogawa aims to drive a sustainable society through the co-innovation of solutions and the co-creation of value, whether with customers or partners.

Noteworthy to highlight, SABIC operates four strategic business units; namely petrochemicals, specialities, agri-nutrients, and metals.

To date, the Japanese company has provided integrated control systems in several SABIC plants, including a large ethylene plant in Jubail, producing 1,000 kt per year.
