Muscat: Oman's Majlis Al-Shura is discussing the proposal put forth by one of the members to build a bridge that would connect Masirah Island to the mainland.

The topic is on the agenda of today's 16th ordinary sittings of the Fourth Annual Session.

Other issues set to be discussed in today's session include a proposal to make it mandatory for couples to undergo hereditary health check-ups before marriage, buyback scheme for plastic bags, and a project to organise the burial sites in the Sultanate.

The island is located in the south-east of Oman, in the governorate of South A'Shariqyah. The island can be reached by a large ferry known as Alyasoora, or by air.
