Abu Dhabi airlines Etihad Airways said it is expanded IATA Travel Pass, a mobile app that helps manage information on COVID-19 vaccines and tests, on flights to seven destinations across its network.

IATA Travel Pass is available for guests on all Etihad flights between Abu Dhabi and Bangkok, Barcelona, Geneva, Madrid, Milan, New York and Singapore, the airline said in a statement Wednesday.

The mobile app, developed by the International Air Transport Association, helps travelers to store and manage their verified certifications for COVID-19 tests or vaccines.

Mohammad Al Bulooki, Chief Operating Officer at Etihad Aviation Group, said: “The feedback from the IATA Travel Pass trial has been positive, with Etihad’s guests appreciating its ease-of-use and data security.

Etihad Airways was among the first airlines to begin test IATA Travel Pass in April 2021 to facilitate COVID-19 travel requirements.

To access the IATA Travel Pass, guests simply need to download the IATA Travel Pass app for Android or iOS, where they can add their travel itinerary, view their travel requirements and securely share their PCR test results, Etihad said.

The aviation industry is looking for ways to boost air travel after pandemic-related lockdowns and government flight restrictions led to a steep drop in passenger numbers and airline revenues.

Dubai-based airline Emirates too has rolled out the IATA pass on its routes.
