Cairo –  The Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry, Nevine Gamea, revealed that the number of vehicle owners who submitted online applications to replace their old cars with new ones operating on natural gas has reached about 30,000.

Nearly 83,000 people have registered on the government portal so far, Gamea added in a statement on Monday.

The first phase of the car replacement plan, launched on 4 January, will cover seven governorates, she noted.

Egypt launched a plan to replace 250,000 old cars with new ones operating on natural gas by 2023.
