New organizational structure aimed at driving growth

The thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions business area, a leading provider of engineering, construction and service for industrial plants and systems, is appointing Boris van Thiel as new CEO of the MENA regional cluster effective December 1, 2015. In August 2014, the 41-year-old geography graduate joined thyssenkrupp, where he was Head of Business Development MENA in the Process Technologies business unit until July 2015. Boris van Thiel has already been acting CEO of the MENA regional cluster for the past four months.

As part of the integration and regionalization of its businesses, Industrial Solutions aims to be close to its customers and participate more strongly in growth in the regions. To this end, the Americas, Sub-Saharan Africa, India, MENA, Asia Pacific and CIS regional clusters have been established with a view to pooling know-how, making better use of existing resources and standardizing processes.

Boris van Thiel sees significant growth opportunities for thyssenkrupp in the MENA region: "To achieve growth in a heterogeneous MENA market subject to sharp fluctuations, we need to set priorities for markets, portfolio segments, customers, staff requirements and office locations. Via a network of local partners and our existing offices in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Morocco we can respond quickly and flexibly to customer inquiries. By establishing implementation hubs in Egypt and Saudi Arabia we are continuously improving our regional competitiveness."

In fiscal 2014/2015 thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions generated sales of €1.6 billion in the MENA region with around 250 employees. The focus in the region is mainly on the large-scale plant engineering business. Its vast oil and gas reserves make the region attractive above all for the construction of petrochemical and fertilizer plants. Numerous infrastructure measures and the development of new city centers and sports facilities are also ensuring increasing demand for cement. Just recently thyssenkrupp won a record order for a cement plant in Saudi Arabia with a contract value in the higher three-digit million euro range. This largest ever cement contract in the company's history comprises two production lines with an overall capacity of 20,000 tons per day.

In addition to the plant engineering business, thyssenkrupp Marine Systems - a global system supplier for submarines and surface vessels - is also involved in several projects in the region.
