Adhering to the Jordan Green Building Guide for the first time in the Kingdom

29 November 2015

Amman - Emphasizing its commitment towards the national efforts aimed at promoting the spread of green buildings across the Kingdom, Izzat Marji Group (IMG) has begun construction on its new headquarters in King Abdullah II Street, thus becoming the first green building in Jordan to receive an A rating according to the Jordan Green Building Guide. It will also be the first building in the Kingdom to achieve environmental sustainability, as well as integrate photovoltaic (PV) panels with state-of-the-art energy and water efficiency systems.

The building, which will be completed by 2017 and will encompass all IMG branches, comprises of 10 floors and a total area of 8,700 square meters, including the Companys main showroom, training centers, staff offices, and parking. In addition, the building features innovative renewable energy and energy efficiency systems, as it is completely covered with PV system units that work on converting solar energy into electric power. Furthermore, an initial Computer Energy Modeling of the building was used to measure the expected savings in energy consumption, resulting in almost 39% savings compared to the building energy baseline model. Given the use of PV systems in the building, carbon dioxide emissions are also expected to decrease by approximately 215,500 kilograms per annum.

As part of our ongoing role as a socially responsible, national company, we are eager to comply with the standards of green building in the construction of our new headquarters, in order to conserve the Kingdoms energy resources and to rationalize their consumption in accordance with current global trends, commented IMG Managing Director, Eng. Basil Marji.

He added, We are proud to be the first company in Jordan to construct such a building. We hope it will set an example in the commercial buildings sector, and act as a catalyst for different companies to adopt this approach. In keeping with the Groups commitment to raising awareness about environmental sustainability, the new headquarters energy efficient systems will be open to visitors, particularly students, in order to educate them on IMGs eco-friendly endeavors. By fostering ties between public, private and non-governmental organizations for the implementation of similar eco-friendly projects in the Kingdom, we can unite national efforts in order to preserve our natural resources and encourage the spread of green buildings in Jordan.
