Dom Sagolla, co-creator of major social networking site Twitter, inspired young GCC HR professionals at the ASHRM 2014 conference today in Dubai.

Many young HR professionals, including Israa Garatli, 31, Samah Raslan, 30, and Abdullah Alandah, 27, were eager to see Dom Sagolla's presentation at ASHRM 2014.

And they are delighted and inspired that Dom appeared at ASHRM 2014, and positively overwhelmed that they finally got to meet their hero in person.

Now, several of them are inspired to use the advice given by Dom in his ASHRM presentation, called Culture of Innovation: Creating a Marketplace of Ideas, to inform and further their career goals.

And Dom is also pleased that his appearance generated such interest among GCC conference delegates, calling the ASHRM audience "brilliant" and "open-minded."

Dom Sagolla, co-creator of Twitter, said: "It's always a pleasure to meet, in person, the people who write to me on Twitter. The audience today was really brilliant and very open-minded. It was inspiring to me to see reactions to the lessons I've learned over the past 8 years, especially how important it is to lead by example.

"This was my entire purpose of coming here - to make sure that there is an inspirational path for other young people to follow."

Abdullah Alandah, recruitment ronsultant at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Saudi Arabia, said: "What others said was very good, but what Dom said was so close to our age, we really loved it. We need young leaders that understand us - this is the engine of transformation.

"One of the things I wanted to learn from ASHRM is where is the HR industry going? Meeting all these people who changed the world, like Dom, and the connections with everyone here are what really matters."

Najat Almahdy, regional HR manager for a major US engineering and design firm, said: "ASHRM 2014 was a truly inspiring and energising HR conference, offering cutting-edge techniques coupled with the route to take this back to my organisation.

"It really is the best HR conference in the GCC region - it is the only one that attracts the best speakers who have the ability to make you think creatively to solve your HR issues."

Israa Garatli, entrepreneur and founder of her own CV writing company, said: "Meeting Dom Sagolla in person at ASHRM 2014 was the highlight of my year.

"I read the program and got really excited that he would be here. I will certainly use this experience to help in my work. Social media is definitely the way to connect with people and recruit for companies now."

Samah Raslan¸ a Technical Developer for a major GCC energy company, said: "It's great that ASHRM 2014 got someone as famous as Dom Sagolla to speak here. It was even better to meet him face-to-face. He's so humble and ready to speak to visitors here - this conference has been a wonderful experience."

Abdulhadi Al Mansouri, President of ASHRM, said: "It is truly wonderful to see so many people, young and old, being inspired by the ASHRM 2014 conference to think creatively to solve their HR and people management issues.

"I am delighted to have welcomed so many top quality speakers, delegates and guests to the ASHRM 2014 conference, and I look forward to continuing our excellent work next year!"
