Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 10 May 2014 - In line with its commitment to continuously invest in introducing its latest security system innovations in the Middle East, Smiths Detection, a global leader in the provision of Government regulated systems to detect and identify CBRNE materials, will showcase its next generation security solutions at the Airport Show 2014.
Keeping in view the growing significance of the UAE and wider Middle East region as an aviation, tourism, sporting and business hub, Smiths Detection will present solutions that are equipped to address the emerging security challenges for this region. These include the IONSCAN 500DT that is capable of detecting and identifying explosives and narcotics within a single analysis and the HI-SCAN 10080 XCT, a next generation high-speed checked baggage explosives detection system.
With a belt speed of 0.5m/sec (98.5ft/min) and a large 1070 x 810mm (42.1 x 31.9in) rectangular tunnel, the HI-SCAN 10080 XCT provides the most economical solution for airport checked baggage screening requirements. This combination of belt speed and tunnel size will provide baggage handling systems the capability to process a throughput of up to 1800 bags/hour with object sizes of up to 1000 x 800 mm (39.4 x 31.5in).
"The Middle East is a priority region for Smiths Detection and for the past three decades, we have supported the development of this regions' airport security infrastructure with our latest innovations. The UAE and key countries in the Middle East are witnessing exponential economic growth and infrastructure development that needs to be safeguarded against modern day threats and security challenges. Our objective of participation at the Airport Show is to set the agenda to discuss the security challenges of the future and steps and measures that can be taken to mitigate them," said Edward Christie, Managing Director - Smiths Detection Middle East.
With an objective to share insights and highlight trends in the realm of airport security, Edward Christie will participate in a panel discussion titled 'Airport security in a mobile world'. This session will focus on the emergence of new threats and risks facing airport security management models. During this discussion, Edward will shed light on new technologies and demonstrate the importance of security for airport passengers, the relevance of cross-border collaboration, freight movement and supply chain management.
In another forum in the co-located Global Airport Leaders Forum (GALF), Malte Pruss, Director of Products, Conventional X-Ray, will share a presentation titled: "Automatic Detection Liquids". The presentation will focus on methodologies used for detection of liquids at airport check points.
Detection of nuclear threats will also be a key focus for Smiths Detection at the Airport Show and visitors to the event will have a chance to witness the RadSeeker, which is a handheld, rugged and highly accurate radioscope detector and identifier that was specifically designed to meet the U.S Departments of Homeland Security mission requirements. Furthermore, the Multi-Mode threat detector, another hand held innovation that is capable of identifying explosives, narcotics, toxic industrial chemicals and chemical warfare agents in one system will also be showcased by Smiths Detection at the event.
Besides these, HazMatID, a next-generation handheld unknown solid and liquid chemical identifier that performs an analysis in 1 minute or less will be showcased at the event. Smiths Detections' Sabre 5000 will also be a key highlight of the event. Using Smiths Detection's proven Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) technology the SABRE 5000 is programmed to detect and identify over 40 threat substances in approximately 20 seconds. These include threats such as common peroxide-based, volatile and unstable chemicals often used to construct IED and ammonium nitrate commonly used in home-made explosives.
