Gulf paper mills call for setting up new industry body to boost the sector and coordinate on pricing for external markets

Gulf-based paper mills participating in Paper Arabia 2015 have called for establishing a new industry body to boost the Gulf paper industry and increase business volumes between Gulf markets as well as enhance collaboration in deciding pricing and distribution to external markets. 

Paper could be a major contributor to boosting the industrial sector in the Gulf and support the Gulf countries' drive towards growing non-oil economies.

Paper Arabia 2015, the first-of-its-kind industry expo at the Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre, concluded today Wednesday (September 16, 2015) and attracted over 10,000 trade visitors, an increase of 25 percent compared to last year's edition.

Sponsored by Saudi Paper Group (SPG), the 8th edition of Paper Arabia 2015 attracted participation of a wide range of companies from 45 countries.

"Paper Arabia is an important event on Dubai's annual calendar of events. The new solutions displayed at the show were welcomed by local, regional and international companies in the light of the rapid growth of paper, tissue and converting sector in the Middle East and North Africa regions," said Lamyae Zafati, Exhibition Manager, Al Fajer Information and Services, organizers of Paper Arabia 2015.

Gulf paper industry has seen major developments over the past few years and, with the exponential rise in its growth potential, leading local and regional players are now in the midst of strategic investment and market expansion as reflected throughout the three days of Paper Arabia 2015.

Paper Arabia brought together players from the paper, tissue and converting industries. This show offered opportunities to the manufacturers and suppliers of finished products, equipment, machinery, paper chemicals, services, supplies of paper, tissue and converting sector to tap the Middle East and North African markets. 

Participants at the show were upbeat about the UAE paper industry which they said has great potential for further growth.

"Paper Arabia 2015 has succeeded in contributing effectively to the development of the paper, printing and packaging industry in the GCC. The show reflected our efforts in highlighting key regional industry segments which have been contributing to the economic growth," added Zafati.
