Abu Dhabi, UAE, March 28, 2017

HE Khalifa bin Salem Al Mansouri, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), said that the launch of the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit in Abu Dhabi comes at a time when the leadership of the UAE is focused on innovation to build a diversified and sustainable economy. The Summit, he said, provides greater opportunities for international companies in the local industry.

HE Al Mansouri delivered the welcome note at the beginning of day one of the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit, being held at the Paris-Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

He stated that the event provides an effective and valuable platform, not only to prepare future plans for global industry, but also to drive the transformation required for global industry to meet the needs of future generations.

"Abu Dhabi is an example of the ability to build a diversified industrial base in record time using the latest technologies, and has recently been able to contribute effectively to the value chain of the world's advanced industries such as aircraft, renewable energy and defence industries," said Al Mansouri. “Abu Dhabi is moving to the second level of industrialisation, by finding strategies that contribute to the existence of a diverse, dynamic, self-directed industrial ecosystem that is led by the private sector. This will be achieved through the development of policies aimed at reducing the role of government as a business leader, and the adoption of policies that stimulate private sector organisations to participate in the national diversification program. On behalf of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, we wish all participants a successful Summit. We expect GMIS to produce results and recommendations that will become an important source of reliable data for future decision-making in the UAE and abroad.”

The government of Abu Dhabi considers manufacturing to be a strategically important sector that can contribute significantly to the development of a diversified economy, ensuring stable economic growth.

The Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit, co-chaired by the UAE Ministry of Economy and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), is being held at the Paris-Sorbonne Abu Dhabi, UAE, until March 30, 2017.
