Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) announced last week that trial operations have started at the Rabigh-Jeddah-Makkah Water Transmission System.

In June, Zawya Projects had reported that the 650-kilometre-long water transmission project would start operations in the fourth quarter of 2021.

SWCC announced via its Twitter account on 4th November that trial operations started two months ahead of schedule.

It said the system comprises of 10-inch to 80-inch diameter pipelines, four pumping stations capable of pumping 1.3 million cubic metres/day (m3/day) of desalinated water and 47 water tanks with a total storage capacity of 1.8 million m3.

It said the transmission system’s capacity has been increased from 1.2 million m3/day to 1.3 million m3/day by the engineers working on the project, adding that the project would cater to the areas of Makkah, Jeddah, Nuweiba, Rabigh, Masturah, Al-Abwa, Kiliya, Sa’bar, Thuwal, Khulais, Gran, Asfan, Al-Tala’a, Al-Barza, and Al-Jumum areas.

On Monday, Zawya Projects had reported that trial operations have started earlier than scheduled at the 600,000 m3/day Rabigh-3 Independent Water Plant project in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia.
