Riffa, Bahrain- The American University of Bahrain (AUBH) has officially started its new academic year 2021-2022 by concluding the first week of classes. Classes commenced on Sunday, September 12 for the newly admitted and returning students, beginning their higher education journey within Bahrain’s first American-style University.

The state-of-the-art campus witnessed a large number of national and international students attending different classes on campus. The faculty members were excited to start the new academic year and hold interactive sessions and classes. Besides academia, students enjoyed a variety of extracurricular activities aimed at providing them with a view of the unique approach AUBH offers to students fostering interaction and collaboration between students, faculty, and the professional community.

The students enrolled across AUBH’s three Colleges of Business & Management, Engineering, and Architecture & Design, and will benefit from the University’s holistic approach to education, which focuses on creating well-rounded and work-ready graduates through a focus on soft skills as well as academia.

Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, AUBH’s Founding President commented: “I enjoyed welcoming our incoming fall semester students today, and seeing in person how they represent our values here at AUBH. I am sure this cohort will do great things and I congratulate them all on the start of their university journey today.”

Mrs. Amal Al Awadhi, AUBH’s Director of Student Affairs also commented: “I was so thrilled to experience this first day of classes, which showcased the dynamic attitude of our students who are on to a lifetime of success. We are also proud to welcome our current students back bringing life back to the AUBH campus.”

Prior to the start of the academic year, all freshmen and new transfer students attended a mandatory student orientation event which was held on two consecutive days, September 8th and September 9th on campus. The session overviewed general academic regulations, university policies, and available support services. Students were given a full university orientation, including a welcome speech from Dr. Susan E. Saxton, Founding President; Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, Provost; Mr. William D. Hurt, Chief Operating Officer; and Mrs. Amal Al Awadhi, Director of Student Affairs.

During the mandatory student orientation, the Office of Student Affairs introduced university life through campus tours, meetings, lectures, demonstrations, and other activities. The program is aimed at helping new students adjust to AUBH, meet other new students, and speak with university administrators.

Representatives of the Student Council were on hand to introduce new students to the Student Council body and the different events and clubs on campus. As part of the cohort, Ms. Atharie Al Salem, AUBH Student Council President, commented: " I'm really happy to be part of this Orientation Day helping guide and introduce students to our AUBH community. As Student Council representative, I am happy to announce that we have many events lined up for our new students .”

Mr. Ali Al Toblani, Vice President of AUBH Student Council also expressed his excitement for the new academic year, “ We are delighted to see life back on campus and are happy to welcome all new students to our community. We are also very excited to see them sign up for our very own student council clubs and assure them that there are many exciting events in the pipeline.”

AUBH’s purpose-built campus in Riffa is a second home to a new caliber of students, nurtured and mentored by hand-picked faculty with the best international and local expertise. Admissions for the fall 2021 semester will close on September 23, 2021.

AUBH is proud to be licensed by the Higher Education Council of the Ministry of Education of Bahrain.  On June 3rd, 2021, a WSCUC panel reviewed the appropriate Eligibility criteria and determined that the institution is eligible to proceed with an Application for Accreditation. A determination of Eligibility is not a formal status with the WASC Senior College and University Commission, nor does it ensure eventual accreditation. It is a preliminary finding that the institution is potentially accreditable and can proceed within five years of its Eligibility determination to be reviewed for Candidacy or Initial Accreditation status with the Commission.
