The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) announced on Monday that it is launching a joint tender with ADPower for the first sub-sea transmission network in the Middle East.

The oil major said in a tweet that the joint project would connect ADNOC's offshore facilities to ADPower's onshore electricity grid.

ADNOC said the project would be offered on Build Own Operate (BOO) basis with ownership transferred back to ADNOC at the end of the project period.

Details about project cost, power purchase agreement and duration of the project period weren't disclosed.

The Abu Dhabi oil company said the project would help optimise power supply costs and up to 30 percent carbon footprint reduction for ADNOC's offshore facilities.

In November 2019, Swiss-Swedish engineering company ABB had announced the successful completion of a 3,000-hour shallow water test for its new subsea power distribution and conversion technology system. The system was developed through a $100 million Joint Industry Project (JIP) initiated in 2013 between ABB, and Equinor with its partners Total and Chevron.
