As the Education Ministry has temporarily closed schools across Bahrain to limit the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the British School of Bahrain (BSB) has built on its reputation of embracing new technology, by embarking on a new venture of establishing a virtual school to continue to provide learning and support to all its students.

This week, BSB students from ages four to 18 attended school entirely online.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, it said.

The school’s membership to the Inspired Education Group, a leading global premium schools group operating on five continents, was instrumental in accelerating the deployment of new technology to ensure continued learning, the school said.

BSB is now using innovative educational software to deliver a full curriculum, entirely online, to all age groups.

“Thank you BSB for the enormous effort, we really appreciate it. It’s very clear that BSB surpasses other schools in the virtual school experience. We loved the range of lessons and the balance with all subjects, such as the PE sessions; thanks for the thought as the children will need some physical activity at this time,” the school quoted a parent as saying.

“We are very proud of our outstanding, committed and very talented teachers, who are going above and beyond to ensure their students’ academic development,” commented another.

Executive headmaster John Maguire has repeatedly expressed his admiration for the way the staff and senior leaders have responded.

“The announcement came during the half-term holiday, yet within 48 hours, all staff were preparing to operate a virtual BSB,” said a school statement.

“Characteristically, the teachers have seized the opportunities that this situation has presented and have worked collaboratively to develop innovative and exciting teaching methods. There are certainly elements of the ‘Virtual BSB’ that we will retain even once the school reopens.”
