RIYADH — The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has launched the third phase of the free local roaming service, with the service now being available in the Eastern, Northern Borders and Al-Jouf regions.

The Commission added that the second phase of the local roaming service will cover 422 villages in the Eastern region, and 145 villages in Al-Jouf region, and 124 villages in the Northern Borders region.

The CITC has completed the first phase of the free roaming service by covering parts of the Asir region, followed by the second phase, covering the Riyadh and Al-Qassim regions.

The CITC confirmed the completion of the service in 21,000 villages covered by telecommunications services in the rest of the regions in the Kingdom by the end of 2021.

It is noteworthy that The CITC had launched the signing of a commercial agreement between Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Etihad Etisalat Company (Mobily) and Mobile Telecommunications Company Saudi Arabia (Zain) for the launch of the local roaming service last August.

The local roaming service aims to enable service providers to benefit from the telecommunications networks of others and also to help them meet the requirements of the beneficiaries through it, as it supports the empowerment of digital transformation in the villages of the Kingdom

The local roaming service includes all services such as (voice services, Internet services, short text messages “SMS”).
