Schindler Group, a leading global provider of elevators, escalators and related services, said it has been signed up by Riyadh Airports Company (RAC) to set up new escalators at Terminals 1 and 2, as well as the Royal Terminal of King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in Riyadh.
The fitout project, to be completed by 2022, will see the supply of 74 escalators of the type Schindler 9300, the world’s most popular escalator, said a statement from Schindler.
 
Scope of the project is to provide a reliable, heavy usage escalator system for the airport that helps transport over 28 million passengers per year, it stated.
RAC Commercial VP Gelban AlGelban said: "It is important to choose the right partner to achieve a positive business outcome. Keeping this in mind, we are glad to have partnered with Schindler on this project that will propel our expansion plans and the overall functioning of the KKIA to a whole new level."
RAC is part of Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector privatization program. The company manages and operates KKIA in the Saudi capital and is working on upgrading the KKIA infrastructure, expanding with new services and facilities.
 
Riyadh Airports is also moving forward with plans to develop, manage, and operate other airports in Riyadh Governorate.

Schindler has been present in Saudi Arabia since 1957 and has expanded considerably in the last decade by acquiring full ownership of Saudi Elevator and entering into a partnership with the Olayan Group.
Recently, Schindler announced the supply of vertical mobility solutions for the Makkah’s King Abdul Aziz Road (KAAR), a landmark project centered around the Al-Haram Mosque, remarked Oetterli.
