The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced that driving institutions in the emirate will be allowed to continue operating, provided they meet a set of guidelines put in place because of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

The RTA said that inspections will be carried out to check that the institutions are implementing the precautionary measures, Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm reported.

Institutions that do not meet these guidelines will be closed immediately, the RTA said.

The measures put in place include:

1. Different gates for entering and exiting, and the capacity should never exceed 30 per cent
2. Thermometers, other equipment for temperature checks
3. Sanitisers and other sanitising products must be available across the institutions
4. Door knobs, chairs, and other items commonly must be thoroughly cleaned regularly
5. All vehicles must be cleaned after each use, from the inside and outside
6. Elevators, their surfaces and buttons must be thoroughly cleaned
7. A log of the cleaning process has to be maintained, with a mention of the substances and equipment used
8. Using stickers and posters urging people to maintain a distance of 2 metres
9. Using single-use plastic cups
10. Keeping ready areas that can be used for quarantine in case of an emergency
11. Cleaning the whole institution after working hours
12. Removing public sitting spaces, except for people of determination
13. Stop accepting cash for payments. Accept payment only electronically
14. Follow the exact working hours, in coordination with the national sterilisation programme
15. Canteens, cafeterias and prayer rooms should remain closed

For instructors and learners:

1. Bookings are required, via SMS or social media accounts
2. Temperature of all visitors must be checked
3. Any person with high temperature must not be allowed into the premises
4. Any employee with any breathing-related symptoms must not come to work, and visit nearest medical centre
5. All persons must wear face masks before entering the establishment
6. Children aged 3 to 12, and people older than 60, are not allowed inside the institution
7. Employees should never be more than 30 per cent of the total workforce
8. Encourage customers to use electronic payment methods
9. Urge employees and customers to use hand sanitisers before and after using ATMs
10. Conduct virtual meetings
11. Only one learner allowed in each testing vehicle
12. Encourage remote learning, as only 30 per cent of learners will be allowed in each class
13. Employees older than 60, and pregnant employees, aren't allowed to work
14. Use a central system to record information, and stop using paper completely
15. Gatherings are not allowed in the institution
16. Social distancing in a must
17. The institution must provide face masks and sanitising products to learners and testing staff, in classes and vehicles.
18. Face masks must never be removed while at work
