MANAMA: Shopping malls were yesterday urged to grant facilities to owners of rented outlets which risk having to close down under the impact of the coronavirus.

Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) commended malls which took the initiative to exempts monthly rents of shops or reduce them.

It praised the trading outlets which responded to the BCCI call to ease financial burdens on owners of rented shops, citing, particularly, the Seef Mall, Yateem Centre and the Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah).

The BCCI statement urged owners of other malls to follow suit and contribute to the efforts aimed at revitalising the national economy and boosting the vital trade and industrial sectors.

The BCCI stressed its resolve to maintain the stability of local markets, stepping up co-operation with government departments.

In a statement yesterday, it said it is following up developments and repercussions of the coronavirus on trade and economic sectors.

It announced that its board is in permanent session to follow up the repercussions and submit recommendations to authorities concerned to alleviate the impact resulting from Covid-19.
