Bahrain is set to open its first educational park in Isa Town – Mayasem Educational Park. It will help children study after school with a comfortable and convenient place for parents to meet up too.

The project is part of a partnership between Edamah, the real-estate arm of the kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat, and Mayasem Holding, which won a competitive tender to develop the facility.

The 16,293sqm park will feature classrooms and halls leased out for lectures, workshops and drama classes.

Entrepreneurs will also be able to rent the facilities for educational programmes and training to help them establish their own businesses.

“Our educational experience spans more than 30 years of leading the Bahrain Bayan School towards achieving its vision and mission,” Mayasem Holding founder and chief executive Dr Shaikha Mai bint Sulaiman Al Otaibi, told members of the media at a signing ceremony.

The company has also succeeded in providing fully equipped spaces and training for entrepreneurs through the Mayasem’s +973 Artisinat project located in Juffair.

Edamah chief executive Mr Alarrayed said the park will provide surrounding institutions and the public with an opportunity to benefit from state-of-the-art facilities.

“We conducted an in-depth field study circulated to private and public schools across Bahrain, taking into account needs of institutions from the perspective of students and families,” said Mr Alarrayed.

“This has assisted in identifying specific elements required for the development in order to fill gaps in the existing market. This project therefore combines a blend of commercial and educational units, which will add significant value to the kingdom and its educational sector.

“This is a very important project. There is a huge amount of concentration of traffic in the Isa Town educational district and it becomes unbelievably difficult to navigate at times, frustrating as a parent when you’re there and have to wait for an hour for your child and there is no place to go – no place for parents to congregate and nowhere to get a reprieve from the waiting around.

“With this project we didn’t want to second guess, so carried out the survey. To my knowledge no developer had done this before. We let the survey results drive what we had to do.

“We had a competition, sent questionnaires to parents, and seriously looked at their suggestions.

“Many asked for a place where they could sit and have a coffee, closer to after-school activities. Currently many parents have to travel far and wide. Others said they wanted a place close enough to buy uniforms or stationery supplies too.

“We soon realised we needed to build support for them and the schools in the immediate area and this, although not a solve-all solution, will help address, add value and deliver on some of those highlighted.”

“It will have a combination of coffee shops, educational and after-school tutorial services and we will talk to all of service providers. They can rent space – basically classrooms – where they can conduct their business. It will also have a bank and other useful and much-requested outlets, and even designated parking areas.

“At least you will have a place where you can go as a parent and be comfortable for an hour or two while you daughter is in drama class – it will make life a little bit easier.

“We see this project ticking all the boxes again when it comes to positive social, economic and commercial impact elements.

“We are working on the designs with Mayasem.”
