Abu Dhabi —   Abu Dhabi's ZonesCorp has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia-based Berain Water to implement an AED 138 million water bottling plant in the food industry zone of Al Ain Industrial City.

Spanning 36,000-square-metre area, the new facility will create 424 jobs, increasing to 807 employees in two years, ZonesCorp said in a statement.

ZonesCorp, which is one of the largest developers of purpose-built economic zones in the UAE, has developed dedicated zones for the food industry that span sizeable areas in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

Commenting on the partnership agreement, Saeed Eisa Mohammed Al Khyeli, director general of ZonesCorp, said, “we have succeeded in diversifying our portfolio within the economic zones to include the food industry. Our partnership with Berain Water demonstrates the level of support we can provide companies from Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC region in expanding their businesses into the UAE market.”

The plant is to begin operation in the first quarter of 2020 with a production capacity of around 70,000 200-600 ml bottles or 27,000 1.5-litre bottles per hour, Mahdi Nasser Al-Qahtani, CEO of Berain Water, said.

The facility will add a “new production lines in 2021 as we start exporting to the rest of the GCC region,” he added.

Abu Dhabi'S food manufacturing sector has seen a remarkable growth over the past few years on the back of the booming domestic market and growing exports.

The UAE’s capital and biggest sheikhdom has constructed state-of-the-art capabilities in producing competitive and value-added products, emerging as one of the most important food manufacturing and processing hubs in the region, according to the statement.
