Several plots of land could be allocated in the Northern Governorate for food trucks to continue their business in an organised manner.

Northern Municipal Council members unanimously approved the proposal which will regulate small local businesses.

The move was spearheaded by council’s technical committee chairman Abdullah Al Qubaisi who said it was within efforts “to support Bahraini food trucks and productive families”.

“This is a crucial proposal as we are suffering from random food trucks everywhere and this will provide several designated locations to organise their trade,” said council chairman Ahmed Al Kooheji.

“These prime locations will allow the business to continue without infringing the law, haphazard parking, traffic congestion or commotion.”

Mr Al Qubaisi added that the proposal would help revitalise trade and business.

“This will also provide a prime location for productive families to improve their income as well as limit unemployment,” he said.

“These projects are crucial for the youth and productive families especially in these unprecedented times so they need our full support.

“Using food trucks means that these vehicles can move from one place to another which also eases the access of customers to them especially if they are in designated areas.”

The GDN previously reported that following directives from His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, a new designated area near the Bahrain International Stadium officially opened as the Food Trucks District.Meanwhile, councillor Mohammed Al Dossari proposed the development of a Housing Services Office to serve residents of Salman Town and neighbouring areas.

“The Housing Ministry has issued a decision as part of government directives to facilitate processes for citizens and this proposal comes in line with these efforts,” he said.

“It will provide services to Salman Town residents and neighbouring towns and villages and will ease the pressure on other centres.

“It is also a popular demand from the residents especially since Salman Town is a modern and large housing town.”

Both the proposals were unanimously approved and will now be referred to the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf for review.
