Dubai: Mawaheb from Beautiful People (Mawaheb), a Dubai-based non-profit art studio for the determined ones from 16 years and above, is holding an exhibition titled ‘In Between the Dots’ at Cuadro Gallery in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The exhibition showcases artworks by its students, inspired by the work of contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.
Openly expressive and vocal about her mental health, Kusama has always found solace in her art, which has been an inseparable part of her journey through life. Often called the ‘Polka Dot Princess,’ Kusama uses art as a means of making sense of her world and coping with her personal psychological challenges, which resonates with our artists of determination.
The art-making process developed into a space for the Mawaheb artists to delve into deeply personal and emotional connections in their own lives as well as broader connections with the world around them. Through the use of bold, bright colours and personal images, the artists were able to explore emotional connections more deeply, and their works demonstrate a profound understanding of how they connect to the world.
Every artwork reflects an emotion or cherished memory that helps them connect with the world around them, including ‘Mawaheb Hugs’ by Leila, which expresses the love she shares with her friends at Mawaheb; ‘My Journey Through the Seven Stages of Grief’ by Mariam, through which she reveals the heartbreak associated with the passing of her mother; and ‘My Love for Baba’ by Asma that sheds light on the deep connection she enjoyed with her father.
‘In Between The Dots’ is taking place at Cuadro Gallery in DIFC from 15th-30th January 2020. The opening ceremony took place on 15th January from 7pm to 9pm.

Mawaheb from Beautiful People is an art studio for the determined ones from 16 years and above.
The studio suitably located in the culturally rich Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood previously known as the Al Bastakiya, is a space where student artists can learn artistic skills and develop their self confidence in a relaxed safe environment.
Its welcoming atmosphere ensures that each student is regarded as individuals with freedom of thought and action. Every student artist can apply annually for a minimum of 1 day per week and maximum of 5 days per week. The year runs from September through to June.
