BEIRUT: Information Minister Jamal Jarrah said Friday that according to the Energy Ministrys proposed power plan, Lebanon would be able to increase its energy output by 1,450 megawatts by the first few months of 2020. After Prime Minister Saad Hariri chaired the first meeting of a newly formed committee to study the plan, Jarrah said it involved two stages, first the temporary track that could increase production by around 1,450 megawatts, and the second phase of the plan, which would see an increase by 3,100 megawatts, according to a statement from Hariris office.

The plan would reduce technical and non-technical waste of electricity to approximately 11 percent of all electricity production, and seek to collect funds owed to Electricite Du Liban.

Jarrah said after the meeting that the committee was very serious about the completion of its work before the next Cabinet meeting and that there had been consensus during the meeting by all parties involved.

The committee was formed Thursday with the strict proviso that it would have only one week to study the proposed plan.
