Iraq has completed the designs of a new city comprising nearly 100,000 houses just outside the capital Baghdad, the official Al-Sabah newspaper said on Monday.

"Ali AL-Wardi City" is located in Nahrwan area in the outskirts of Baghdad and will have an area of around 70 square kilometres, it said.

The city will include houses and apartments besides schools, hospitals, shopping malls, administrative buildings, petrol stations and other facilities, it added.

"The project will be launched once we received the final approval from the concerned authorities...a large number of the houses will be allocated for low-income citizens," the paper said, quoting an official at the Construction and Housing Ministry.
