Fine Hygienic Holding (FHH), the world-leading wellness group and manufacturer of hygienic paper products and germ protection solutions received many awards at the Gulf Sustainability Awards which took place in Dubai recently.

The received awards fell into four categories: Best CSR Initiative, Water and Waste Management, Reaction to Crisis and Best Workplace and HR Practices. Recognizing the group’s ongoing commitment to operating an economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable business.

James Michael Lafferty, CEO of Fine Hygienic Holding, reiterated the company’s pledge to work sustainably for the wellbeing of its employees, customers, communities, stakeholders, and the planet. Lafferty said, “We are elated and very proud of our latest achievement. At Fine we vow to ‘Do the right thing, always’ and we will continue to make a positive impact not only across our business operations but also in the communities where we work”.

FHH won the Gold award in the Best CSR Initiative Category for Khair Al Koura – the company’s flagship CSR initiative which has been running since 2007 to promote locally sustainable development in an impoverished rural community in Jordan. Through the program, more than 6,000 beneficiaries were empowered to pursue new income-generating opportunities, demonstrating that CSR can have a real impact when in 2020 the project became completely self-sustainable, and ownership was transferred to the direct female beneficiaries.

The group was awarded Silver in the Water or Waste Management Category for its water treatment plant which uses cutting-edge technology to recycle 80% of wastewater at their manufacturing site in Jordan. Thanks to this, the factory reduced freshwater consumption by a quarter – of great strategic importance in one of the most water-poor countries in the world – and achieved significant savings on operating costs.

The Bronze award in the Reaction to Crisis Category highlighted how a sustainable philosophy drove the development of the Fine Guard range. Consisting of multiple innovative antiviral products – reusable face masks and non-toxic and long-lasting disinfectants – which work together to keep customers protected. The Fine Guard products are exported to numerous markets where they have helped save lives and enabled businesses to return to work safely.

The second bronze was awarded in the Best Workplace and HR Practices Category for FHH’s holistic approach to employee empowerment and wellbeing. Knowing that employees thrive in a diverse and inclusive workplace, FHH made concerted efforts to empower women which ultimately benefited all employees, not least through their flexible ‘Work from Anywhere’ policy. The company also offers incentives and free resources to support the physical and mental wellbeing of the entire workforce.

The Gulf Sustainability Awards 2021 is an annual event which aims to promote excellence and inspire real change in various sectors by awarding impactful and innovative CSR initiatives. The conscientious work done by FHH to keep sustainability as a key focus across all their operations sets an example for other companies to follow.
