Dubai – Emirates Islamic Bank, a leading financial institution in the UAE, today donated AED5 million to provide five million meals to the ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign.

The biggest food distribution drive in the region aims to provide food parcels for disadvantaged individuals and families across 20 countries in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Hisham Abdullah Al Qasim, Chairman of Emirates Islamic Bank, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Emirates NBD Group, said: “Donating to the ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign reflects our mandate as an Islamic banking institution with a firm commitment to community service. We hope our contribution helps alleviate the suffering of individuals and families affected by the ongoing repercussions of the pandemic.”

He added, “This gallant initiative, which has expanded its scope by tenfold this year to reach more people across the region, embodies the UAE’s values ​​of compassion and giving. Delivering on its promise to help those most in need is a testament to the UAE’s proven role of uniting the international community behind the goal of eradicating hunger around the world by 2030, as outlined in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).”

The ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign, which is organised by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) and implemented by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian & Charity Establishment, runs in cooperation with international partners the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Food Banking Regional Network. The integrated distribution network ensures food parcels are delivered at the doorsteps of families in underserved homes and villages.

A meal for AED1

The ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign enables people and organisations inside and outside the UAE to contribute the cost of basic foodstuffs starting from AED1 –the equivalent cost of ingredients needed to prepare a meal in the lowest-income communities in beneficiary countries including Uganda, Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, Angola, Jordan and Pakistan.

Donations can be made in four easy ways. First, on the campaign website www.100millionmeals.ae,; second, by contacting the campaign call center on the toll-free number 8004999; third, via the designated bank account through Dubai Islamic Bank (AE08 0240 0015 2097 7815 201); and  fourth, by sending “Meal” by SMS on specified UAE numbers (Etisalat and Du) listed on the website.
