Cairo – Egypt’s agricultural exports rose by 13% year-on-year in the September-April period of fiscal year 2017/2018, a report issued by the Agriculture Export Council showed.

Exports recorded 3.16 million tonnes during the eight-month period of FY17/18, compared to 2.802 million tonnes in the same period a year earlier, according to the state-run Ahram Gate news website.

Fresh potatoes topped Egypt’s agricultural exports with 615,900 tonnes at a value of $177.1 million, followed by onion exports with 339,665 tonnes valued at $116.23 million and fresh pomegranate with 146,399 tonnes worth $83.765 million.

The Arab nations were the largest importers of Egyptian crops despite the imposed restrictions by some of these countries on some of the crops.

It is worth noting that Egyptian non-petroleum exports rose by 16% year-on-year in the first four months of 2018, recording around $8.64 billion from $7.43 billion.
