Dubai:The United Arab Emirates delegation, represented by the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA), headed by HE Abdullah Al Maeeni, ESMA Director General, participated in the 83rd General Assembly Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Organization (IEC) and its Technical Committees in Shanghai, China.

The total number of young local professionals from the UAE who have been qualified 7 nationals in engineering and technical Specialties, Public and private sectors.

The International Electrotechnical Organization (IEC) is one of three international organizations (IEC, ISO and ITU) which are concerned with the development of international standards. The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) seeks to activate its cooperation with the organization to achieve the vision of the world leader in building confidence in products and quality systems.

The delegation also participated in the meeting of the Presidents and Secretariat of the National Committees and the meeting of the Legal Counsel of the International Electrotechnical Organization, during which the new composition of the Council and the budget for the years 2020-2021 was adopted.

In line with “The Letter of the New Season” of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and through the tenth program Young Professionals Programme, in the organization.

The participation of the UAE was among more than 86 countries worldwide, and nearly 4000 delegates from various member countries of the organization of the international event, which reflects positively on the sector of international standardization activities, and the impact on performance World Economic Performance.

Technical disciplines

H.E Abdullah Al Maeeni, ESMA Director General, said that the nomination of the “Young Professionals Programme” is in line with the UAE's directions in promoting the localization of technical disciplines, and building young national capacities in the sector of quality infrastructure and standardization activities.

The tenth program is Eng. Mohammed Saleh and Eng. Yousef Al-Shamali, who are working in engineering jobs for Dubai Cables Ltd - Ducab, in an Emirati effort to build national capacities in specialized fields.

National cadres

ESMA supports the Government's orientations in this regard, through the qualification of national cadres for the membership of the specialized technical committees of the International Electrotechnical Organization, in order to ensure a positive representation of the UAE.

He added: ESMA will not only endeavor to increase the number of young national cadres, which will contribute to the empowerment of youth and build effective communication with experts around the world to activate their role and raise the percentage of Emiratization in specialized technical engineering positions for both sectors, as well as investment and raise the quality of national industries and compete globally.

The meetings represented an exceptional opportunity to connect with nearly 4,000 international officials and experts, contributing to the development of young national capacities in this field, building knowledge and expanding professional networking for them, and allowing them to participate in interactive sessions and events, and prepare them to keep up with the trends of the UAE leaders. He said.
