Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) is expected to award Build- Own-Operate (BOO) contracts for three Independent Sewage Treatment Plant (ISTP) projects by the second quarter of 2021, a source aware of the details told Zawya Projects.
The three ISTPs are namely the 150,000 cubic metres/day (m3/day) Buraydah 2, the 90,000 m3/day Tabuk 2 and the 200,000 m3/day (expandable to 375,000 m3/day) Madinah 3.
The contracts are likely to be awarded by June 2021, the source said.
The original bid submission date of 15 December 2020 for the RFPs was extended due to the COVID-19 delays, a second source told Zawya Projects.
"There is also a possibility that the 15 March deadline for Buraydah and Tabuk ISTPs could be extended further. For Madinah 3, the bid submission deadline was extended to 1 March 2021," the second source said, adding that the projects are scheduled for completion in 2024.
The second source estimated the total project cost for all three plants at around $450 million.
SWPC had issued the request for proposal (RFP) for Buraydah and Tabuk ISTPs to the five prequalified companies/consortiums on 16 June 2020.
On 15 June, it had issued RFP for Madinah 3 ISTP to the same set of companies, and also Veolia Middle East.
A total of 64 companies had expressed interest in Buraydah 2 and Tabuk 2 ISTPs, while 62 companies had expressed interest in Madinah 3 ISTP, according to past SWPC statements.
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) is the financial advisor and lead adviser; DLA Piper Middle East is the legal advisor and WS Atkins is technical advisor for the projects, the second source said.
