Background

Water Distribution Board of the Democratic Republic of Congo planned to develop Congo DRC Urban Drinking Water Supply Project, in Kinshasa, Matadi, and Lubumbashi, CONGO (DRC). The project covered the construction of new water plant, rehabilitation of the existing pumping stations and water treatment facilities, rehabilitation of secondary and tertiary pipelines, reinforcement of the water transfer pipelines, and some other construction work. It included the rehabilitation of 5,000 household connections, the installation of 10,000 new meters, and the construction of 100 standpipes in Matadi. And in Kinshasa, the project would rehabilitate 378 kilometers of the secondary and tertiary distribution networks, and replace and install 250,000 meters. In addition, 25,000 new connections to the distribution network were completed and 200 standpipes were installed. CCCC First Highway Engineering Group was the construction contractor for Kinshasa water supply plant phase 2. Weihai International Economic & Technical Cooperative was the construction contractor for Kinshasa water supply plant phase 1. China Railway No.8 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. was the construction contractor for water intake bridge. The project objective was expected to increase, on a sustainable basis, access to drinking water in certain urban centers of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
