Nepal Optical Fiber Cable Information Highway Project - UTL Mid Hill Optical Fiber

Also known as: United Telecom Optical Fiber Section, Mid Hill Optical Fiber Project along Province 4 and 5
Delayed

Background

Nepal Telecommunications Authority planed to develop Nepal Optical Fiber Cable Information Highway Project - UTL Mid Hill Optical Fiber, from Arughat of Gorkha to Burtibang of Baglung, Nepal. United Telecom Ltd was the main developer of the project. The project covered the construction of the Mid Hill optical fiber project along Province 4 and 5 with the total designed span length of 2147 kilometers. As per the rumor, NTA had scrapped the contract with UTL and decided to transfer the contract to other company due to the slow progress of this package. The information highway would aid in the government’s target for easy, reliable and affordable high-speed broadband across Nepal. The government of Nepal planed to complete 15 projects in the next four years to build “Digital Nepal”. The Ministry of Information and Communications was willing to cooperate with various departments and contractors to achieve this goal at an early date. It would also deepen the cooperation between China and Nepal on telecommunication and the Belt and Road Initiative.
