Background

Uganda National Roads Authority planned to develop Uganda Hoima-Butiaba-Wanseko Road Project in Western Uganda, Uganda. Chongqing International Construction Corp (CICO) Ltd was the civil construction contractor. The project covered the construction of 111 km road widening, surfacing of 70 mm asphaltic concrete, road width of 7m with 2m wide shoulders on either side, 2 bridge structures, installation of pipe culverts and box culverts, road marking and installation of road signs, guardrails and other road furniture, main contractor to sub-contract 30% of the value of total physical works to local firms, implementation of HIV/AIDS awareness programs and environmental mitigation measures. The project would enhance the road quality and connectivity of the country, as well as promote Belt & Road cooperation between Uganda and China.
