Two years ago, Twitter explained its principles and approach to world leaders on the platform. Today, Twitter is calling for the public’s input on how it regulates world leaders on the platform with the aim to ensure those policies remain relevant in the ever-evolving landscape of political discourse on Twitter, while continuing to protect the health of public conversation.

Twitter recently announced the launch of a public survey, which will help inform the development of its policy framework. The survey poses the question on whether or not the public believes world leaders should be subject to the same rules as others on Twitter. And, should they violate a rule, what type of enforcement action is appropriate.

The survey is available in 14 languages: Arabic, English, Chinese, Farsi, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, and Urdu. The multi-lingual approach  is to ensure a global perspective is reflected in the feedback, mirroring the approach Twitter has taken with previous public surveys.

In addition to the survey, Twitter is consulting with a range of human rights experts, civil society organizations, and academics worldwide whose feedback will be reflected in forthcoming revisions to the policy framework.

Twitter serves the public conversation, allowing the public to hear from and engage with leaders around the world. Ultimately, the aim of its work is to ensure a policy that appropriately balances fundamental human rights and considers the global context in which it operates.

The survey will close on Tuesday, April 13, at 4AM UAE, 3AM KSA, 2AM EGY.
